A local business is competing for the title of Sweetest Bakery in America.
Country Cookie, 206 S. Belt Highway, is known for its sugar cookies, especially the ones topped with frosting and multi-colored sprinkles. The cookie recipe has been a part of the St. Joseph community since the late Barbara Harrison began making them out of her home in 1986. It started as a beloved assortment of fudge, cookies and breads in the city’s South Side.
Harrison was encouraged to call on convenience stores to market her sweet treats that now are the over-sized cookies seen in a basket at check-out counters today.
