CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Martin's Famous Potato Rolls and Bread are becoming world famous as the American family owned and operated company, Martin's Famous Pastry Shoppe, Inc., located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, is now exporting to more than 20 countries. Already the number one selling hamburger roll in America, Martin's soft, pillowy, buttery potato roll is gaining traction in countries around the world including United Arab Emirates, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.
Martin's Famous Pastry Shoppe started in 1955 when Lloyd and Lois Martin converted their garage into a small bakery. Since then, the Martin family has focused on baking great-tasting products using high-quality ingredients. The famous potato rolls and bread are delivered fresh, primarily in the eastern United States, through Martin's renowned distribution networks and transport company (MFPS Transport, Inc.). Martin's started exporting in 2011 because several popular restaurants wanted to take the special Martin's recipe along with them for their menus as they opened new restaurants abroad.
Recently Martin's representatives attended the Gulfood Show, which is the world's largest annual food & beverage exhibition held at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The Gulfood Food Show welcomes food and beverage professionals from all corners of the globe, including 120 countries, to meet with 5000 providers of raw materials and ingredients who showcase the tastes, trends, and innovations that are shaping the future of food and beverage consumption worldwide. Martin's is a trendsetter in the bakery category at this show. "It just goes to show that when you have an excellent quality product and have genuinely good people managing your company, others will recognize it," says Wendy Cowan, Marketing Manager.
While the Martin's representatives were at the Gulfood Food Show, they were able to meet current and potential customers and fans. "Our rolls are served in hundreds of restaurants outside the United States. Our products' texture and flavor is very different from the local bread choices in many countries, and food shows give us a chance to meet with people who can then taste our products for themselves," Terry Lushbaugh, Martin's Food Service Manager, explains.
Jim Martin, Martin's president and the son of the company's founders, attended the Gulfood Show as well. While there he visited several restaurants in Dubai and Abu Dhabi that use Martin's products. "My father used to say, 'If you don't call yourself famous, who else will?' Of course, Dad would say it with a chuckle, since at that time we were just a local brand. Yet now that people recognize our brand in places like Dubai and around the world, and we see how excited folks are about our products, we feel very honored and humbled that our rolls are indeed 'famous.' We're blessed to be able to provide bread and rolls that give people such enjoyment."
