Governor Tom Corbett announced that Maple Donuts, Inc., a specialty food processor of donuts and bakery products, has expanded operations in Erie County to create 60 new jobs in the region.
“With each new job created, another family can work, live and thrive in Pennsylvania,” said Corbett. “Our partnership with Maple Donuts will result in a Pennsylvania company creating 60 of these family-sustaining jobs in Erie.”
Maple Donuts has added a 20,000-square-foot expansion to its existing 80,000-square-foot facility in Lake City, Erie County. The company will invest more than $4.5 million to support the expansion through renovations, site improvements, new equipment and employee training. Maple Donuts also committed to creating 60 new jobs and retaining 110 existing positions within three years.
“Maple Donuts realizes that our employees are the key to our current success as well as the company’s future, we have endeavored to provide good paying jobs, safe working conditions and family support to our employees,” said Maple Donuts’ CEO Nat Burnside. “Investments have been made into additional space, new equipment and technology to insure that we will provide the best possible products available in the market place.
“The support from Governor Tom Corbett’s team is helping us work towards accomplishing our mission. We look forward to increasing our presence in Pennsylvania by continuing to grow and by supporting our community.”
The Department of Community and Economic Development offered a $13,500 Guaranteed Free Training grant to be used for skills training for both new and incumbent employees and a $1,349,600 loan from the Machinery and Equipment Loan Fund to be repaid within 10 years.
Additionally, Maple Donuts has applied for a $793,800 low-interest loan through the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority.
The project was coordinated by the Governor’s Action Team, an experienced group of economic development professionals who report directly to the Governor and work with businesses that are considering locating or expanding in Pennsylvania. The Erie Economic Development Corporation also collaborated on this effort.
Founded in 1946 and headquartered in York, Pa., Maple Donuts, is a family-owned food processing manufacturer specializing in donuts and bakery products. The company currently employs 348 at its Lake City and York locations.
