WASHINGTON, D.C. The American Bakers Association is extremely pleased to announce that House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) will join the ABA Board of Directors and the Allied Trades of the Baking Industry Board of Directors for their joint dinner on Tuesday, September 20.
“We are very excited to roll out our fall guest lineup with a leader like Congressman McCarthy,” said ABA President & CEO Robb MacKie. “Congressman McCarthy is a rising star who has already earned a great deal of respect and trust around town. I know we will have a great evening together and that both boards will benefit from his insight.”
Congressman McCarthy was a small business owner and state assemblyman before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2006. Since his arrival, he has swiftly moved up party ranks and was elected by his colleagues as House Majority Whip at the commencement of the 112th Congress.
“The current budget crisis is a problem not only for us in D.C., but for our member businesses across the country,” MacKie continued. “We look forward to hearing Congressman McCarthy’s perspective on this critical issue, and the many other priorities facing us this year. His perspective as a political leader will be all the more relevant.”
The ABA and ATBI Boards will gather the following day for a special joint meeting in Washington, D.C. The ABA Board is comprised of top leaders from all segments of the baking industry who help develop consensus policies that improve the government environment and overall health of the baking industry. Allen Shiver, president of Flowers Foods, serves as the ABA Board chairman.
