King Cake Flavors Seep Into More Than Just Pastries For Mardi Gras Season

Once the Christmas trees have come down and the Mardi Gras decorations replace them, a favorite sweet of Fat Tuesday begins showing up on tables across the Gulf South. King cake starts appearing in stores, parties, get-togethers, and in office lunch rooms once the season starts each year on the Catholic Feast of the Epiphany, Jan. 6.

As the years have gone by, the traditional favorite has seeped into nontraditional products, which are sold both locally and regionally. These days, we should be able to find everything from king cake sodas by Abita to king cake vodkas by Lucky Player, Taaka or Pinnacle.

There's a Blue Bell ice cream flavor called "Mardi Gras King Cake," and, in perhaps the weirdest connection ever, there's even an "EJuice" king cake flavor for vaping, sold by e-cigarette sellers, Nola Vape.
