When the real estate market tanked during the recession, mortgage broker Jim Asaro decided it was time to make a career change that would harness his family's Italian roots.
But he needed his brother's help.
Asaro approached his brother Bill Asaro with the idea of starting a wholesale bakery company because his brother had 25 years of experience owning or working in bakeries. Asaro told his brother that a wholesale operation had a greater potential for growth than running a small retail store.
"With retail, you've got to be there 24/7 pretty much. In wholesale, you can go after the accounts and there is a lot more out there you can go after," Asaro said. "He liked the idea."
