CSPI: FDA Should Ban Food Coloring

BALTIMORE — A multitude of foods contain artificial food colors that make them vibrant and appealing, but a consumer group thinks the color additives pose a health risk to children and should be banned.

From juice to applesauce, to cereal bars and gelatin, brightly-colored snacks commonly attract the attention of children, while the foods may appear healthy and nutritious to a parent.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, the most widely used artificial food colors are red 40, yellow 5 and yellow 6.
