White Plains, NY – Chabaso Bakery, known for mouthwatering ciabattas and baguettes, has created a line of equally delicious and nutritious sliced sandwich breads. Chabaso Bakery looked to New York-based brand consultancy, Little Big Brands, to develop the packaging.
“Chabaso is the real deal. Their breads are as good for you as they are tasty, and the company history genuine and humble. All things we wanted the design to help communicate,” said Pamela Long, partner, Little Big Brands.
In terms of design, placement on shelf presented the first challenge in that these could potentially sit on a regular shelf in the bread aisle, where you would view the end, or potentially in bakery baskets, where consumers would view it top down. For that reason, end and top feature a similar design.
The second major challenge was creating brand synergy while at the same time pulling the line away from the rest of Chabaso’s portfolio of single day shelf life products. While the line features a consistent brand logo, that logo is surrounded by wheat and rolling pin illustrations that knock out to the loafs enclosed. The color-coded strip that anchors the design and designates flavor is a more contemporary and bolder version of the base brand’s flavor banner. The design also features more natural and contemporary typography and a callout on the neck of the bag, ‘made with the good stuff,’ lest we take ourselves too seriously.
“This needed to feel Artisanal, not mass, yet had to have some category cues for shoppers to recognize,” said John Nunziato, creative director, Little Big Brands. “We also wanted to go against the grain, so to speak, and give Chabaso more personality and flavor appeal than most of the artisan brands in the category.”
The line, which consists of Rustic White, 100% Whole Wheat, Rye, Multi-Grain and Oat offers multi-day freshness, along with chewy crusts and soft centers. These sandwich breads are made with the finest ingredients and feature abundant whole grains while also serving as a good source of iron and fiber. Chabaso breads can be found in the Northeast in major retailers like Stop & Shop, Costco, Food Emporium, Price Chopper, Market Basket and BJ’s.
