Businesses Stock Up On Paczki For Fat Tuesday

For some area bakeries, Fat Tuesday can be busier than Christmas.

It's all because of the annual mad rush for those fruit, custard and jelly-filled fried balls of dough called paczki.

"People just love them," said Sheryl North, a cake decorator at the Meijer store in Fort Gratiot. "So do I."

North said the store has been stocking boxes of paczki for about a month. In that time, she added, she already has bought three or four packages of six.
