The BEMA-U second offering of Learn to Train, November 11 & 12, sold out and received positive reviews from attendees. Many stated that the time and investment was “well spent” and that they would attend again. “The workshop helped to make me a more confident trainer and gave me skills to conduct training with our own technician. I feel this is a big benefit to our company,” said attendee Gary Cournoyer from Reiser.
After the initial offering of Learn to Train in April of 2014, BEMA conducted research and made additional investments to further tailor the workshop to the environment in which its members train. BEMA engaged member, Monica Kline (The EnSol Group), to conduct phone interviews with attendees of the first session and with leaders in BEMA member companies. The goal was to further refine the industry’s needs and make recommendations for improvements to workshop format and content. These efforts yielded not only changes to the curriculum but a set of training tools and checklists made available online to workshop registrants. Many of the attendees stated in surveys that these tools made the course even more valuable to them.
BEMA also engaged a new presenter for the workshop, Renee Rouwhorst. Rouwhorst is an experienced corporate trainer as well as owner of Ryke’s Bakery. Workshop attendees stated that they learned from watching someone else in a training situation as she adapted to the attendees’ needs. BEMA presented a very hands-on, interactive 1½ day workshop designed to introduce new approaches for training to the attendees. The workshop itself was an excellent example of how to train.
