Winona, MN – Bay State Milling Company is pleased to announce the premier of a new video that highlights the company’s sustainability efforts at its milling facility in Winona, Minn. The Zero Waste Challenge video was created in collaboration with Winona County.
The video centers on the efforts of “The Winona Green Team,” which, together, reduced the flour milling facility’s landfill waste from 586 tons to just 118 tons, a total 80 percent, from 2012 to 2014. Through education, dedication and partnership, Bay State Milling Company is driving toward a goal of Zero Waste.
“The Winona Green team is an essential example of employees taking the initiative and making a difference,” said Peter Levangie, Bay State Milling Company President and COO. “The effort stands as a testament to our company values of quality, service, creativity and teamwork, while making a tangible impact on the environment and our community.”
The company plans to use the lessons learned in Winona to improve sustainability initiatives at their other facilities around the country. The video, along with mentorship from the “Green Team,” will help inspire future zero waste projects.
The “Winona Green Team” is led by Packing and Loading Supervisor Bert Lilla and includes employees throughout the plant and the office.
The team was recognized with the 2015 Corporate Leadership in Sustainability Award by Sustain Winona, a multi-sector partnership that works on sustainability initiatives in Winona County.
“Congratulations to Bay State Milling on their efforts to improve our community by reducing waste while increasing the profitability of their business,” said Steve Jacob, 2015 Chair of the Winona County Board. “It’s a great feeling when Winona County can help increase awareness of the benefits of doing the right thing through willing participation in the community. We are all better off because of these efforts.”
