Bakers Commend The House Of Representatives On Passage Of Omnibus – Urge Senate To Follow Suit

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Bakers Association (ABA) commends Members of the U.S. House of Representatives on passing the omnibus spending bill to fund the government for the next nine months.

“Bakers thank House Members for working together to pass the spending package – which include six benefits for the wholesale baking industry,”  said ABA  President & CEO, Robb MacKie.

The agreed upon spending package includes several provisions that deliver relief to the industry, including: flexibility for schools to meet whole grain standards in the USDA’s school meals program; directing the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) to use sound science in its recommendations; additional Ag Research funding, the scale back of two unnecessary Hours of Service provisions; and securing troubled pension plans.

“It is time now for the Senate to act by passing the House approved bill to ensure that the government stay open, and bakers receive relief from the unnecessary burdens it addresses,” added MacKie.
