Washington, D.C. – The American Bakers Association (ABA) applauds Senate Agriculture Chairman Pat Roberts (R-KS) and Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) for reaching a deal on federal GMO labeling preemption.
“Bakers across the nation congratulate Chairman Roberts for his steadfast commitment to reaching a compromise and providing the flexibility needed to keep their consumers informed. Now is the time for the Senate and House of Representatives to quickly pass the bill and ensure that bakers and other food manufacturers are not held liable for non-compliance with Vermont’s law,” said Robb MacKie, ABA President and CEO.
“It is our hope that USDA will pursue an open dialogue and work towards uniform compliance deadlines with other labeling changes such as the new Nutrition Facts Label already directed by the administration,” added MacKie.
ABA expressed that their work is not yet finished and called on the industry to “Rise to Action” and send e-mails to their elected officials urging final passage by CLICKING HERE.
