Fort Wayne, Ind. — Aunt Millie’s Bakeries has closed the Coldwater Bakery II manufacturing plant on Butters Avenue, effective Friday.
“Like most businesses, Aunt Millie’s is constantly reviewing its operations, said Chris Popp, vice president of human resources. “Unfortunately, this at times means that changes can occur which affect people. The Coldwater 2 bakery will be closed July 22, to inefficient equipment that is too capital intensive to improve at this time. The products that were produced at this plant will now be produced at other facilities.”
The nearly 50 — Popp was not specific on the number — jobs that are now gone were relatively good paying jobs, at an average of $18 to $19 an hour, he said.
Over 200 good-paying jobs were lost to the Branch County area earlier this year when Florence Crane Correctional Facility was closed by the state.
