RIDGWAY, Colo. – Allen Shiver, president of Flowers Foods, Thomasville, Ga., has been elected baker co-chairman of the Grain Foods Foundation. Mr. Shiver has served on the board of trustees since 2007 and was previously chair of the marketing committee.
“Allen has played an integral role in GFF over the years,” said Judi Adams, G.F.F. president. “We look forward to his leadership and guidance along with miller co-chair, Breck Barton, president of Cereal Food Processors.”
Mr. Shiver has been president of Flowers Foods since January 2010. Shiver served successively as bakery president, regional vice president, and executive vice president of operations. In 2002, he was promoted to president and chief operating officer of Flowers’ foodservice and snack cake operations. In 2005, he took on the additional responsibility of providing direction for the company’s marketing and new product development efforts.
Mr. Barton has been with Cereal Food Processors since 1995. Prior to that he held various positions with ConAgra Flour Milling Co. including vice president and general manager of the Western Milling Division of ConAgra Flour Milling Co., and vice president of sales. He was also previously employed by Cargill and graduated from the University of Missouri. Mr. Barton has served on the GFF board of trustees since 2005 and has been co-chairman since 2008.
Mr. Shiver replaces Joel Crowder, Kroger Foods, who has served as a trustee since 2004 and as baker co-chair since 2006; he previously served as chairman of the GFF marketing committee. Mr. Crowder will remain on the board of trustees.
