Oak Creek — The smell of fresh bakery may soon permeate the city with Aldi looking to add fresh bakery to their stores and wanting to test the concept in Oak Creek.
The Oak Creek Aldi, 6810 S. 27th St., is part of a pilot program with the grocery retailer looking to build a full service bakery onto the south side of the building. Aldi Oak Creek Division Vice President Atty McGrath said Aldi is working with the city to secure appropriate approvals and they hope to have the new bakery open by the first quarter of 2017.
Most recently, the plans were passed unanimously at a June 28 plan commission meeting.
The addition would be approximately 500 square feet and will cause the lot to lose about five or six parking spaces. No additional employees are expected to be needed and there would be no interruption in store operation during construction.
