Kroger To Spend $10M Building New Memphis Store

Kroger Co. plans to spend $10 million building a new grocery store directly west of its current location at Highland and Poplar.

It plans to build from the ground up, which could mean tearing down some retail buildings surrounding the current Poplar Plaza Shopping Center store at 3444 Plaza Ave., which was built in 1958.

However, tenants such as Dollar General have leases into next year, which means construction will have to wait until the leases expire.

The current store is 57,000 square feet and will remain open until the new store is built.
