Michigan Egg Farmers Enjoy Short Boom

Michigan egg farmer Tim Vande Bunte isn't complaining about the recent nationwide recall of more than 500 million eggs.

His west Michigan farm, Vande Bunte Eggs, has secured higher prices and more customers since the salmonella outbreak that started this month with two farms in Iowa and may have sickened as many as 1,500 people.

Van Bunte Eggs, which began shipping 600,000 eggs a week to California after the outbreak, is using the high-profile food poisoning case as a national steppingstone for its Martin, Mich., operations.
