California Giant Berry Farms has a long history of supporting local and national Cancer organizations and 2010 is no exception. However, this will mark the first year that the company is actually changing its packaging label to support the long standing battle against cancer.
During the month of October consumers will see a pink California Giant label on all strawberry pack size containers in support of breast cancer awareness. Consumers will also be invited to log onto the California Giant website and read the company’s personal stories of battling cancer. Once on the site, consumers will be offered the opportunity to share their stories honoring a loved one or personal story of heroism or strength.
During October proceeds from sales of California Giant strawberries will benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The company chose this specific organization due to the fact that their mission is to save lives through early detection and to provide free mammograms to those in need. Reports from the organization show that over 20,000 mammograms are performed annually due to generous supporters of this cause. There will be more information about the organization on the California Giant website for those interested in providing their own support.
Historically, California Giant Berry Farms has supported the American Cancer Society, Children’s Hospice and the local Jacobs Heart Foundation that supports children with cancer. This year California Giant added to that list also supporting the Santa Cruz Cancer Foundation that provides research funding to the University of California.
California Giant recognizes that they are not alone in the October campaign to support Breast Cancer Awareness month. Rather, the feeling at the company is that there is strength in numbers. “We are very pleased to see so many produce companies getting on board with cancer awareness programs this fall.
