Venice, FL – With an omega-3 rich cookie, Ambo Foods, LLC has been named a finalist in the innovation category of the Sarasota Economic Development Corporation’s 2010 Hall of Fame awards.
“Adding omega-3 to food is not a new idea,” said Dr. Bo Martinsen, co-founder and CEO of Ambo Foods. “But we are the first company in the world to have successfully created a non-fish food that contains a high dose of effective omega-3 (EPA/DHA).”
Founded in 2008, Ambo Foods produces Omega Cookie®, which the company says is an easier way to get enough omega-3. Each Omega Cookie contains 2000 mg EPA/DHA, the equivalent of eating a salmon dinner or taking 7 capsules of omega-3 fish oil.
Omega-3, found abundantly in fatty fish like salmon and tuna, has been linked to preventing cardiovascular disease, lowering triglyceride levels, and relieving joint pains.
Today, several cookie products on the market tout omega-3 content. However, Omega Cookie contains 20 to 80 times more omega-3 EPA/DHA than the leading omega-3 cookie contenders.
“Getting enough omega-3 fish oil is vital,” said Dr. Martinsen. “The studies showing that omega-3 can help promote cardiovascular health typically use 2000 mg of EPA/DHA every day. If you get less than that, you will likely never experience any benefits.”
Besides omega-3, Omega Cookie contains 5 grams of fiber, plus calcium and vitamin D. Omega Cookie is also gluten free and has less sugar than an apple.
With 41 patent claims behind Omega Cookie, this is not the first time that Ambo Foods has been recognized for its innovation. In June 2010, Ambo Foods ranked as a finalist for the prestigious Frank G. Berlin Sr., Small Business Innovation and Technology award.
The Economic Development Corporation will announce the winner for the Hall of Fame Innovation Award on September 17th at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota.
