Target Expands Food Offerings

Groceries are in, gardening out at Target.

The Minneapolis-based discounter known for trendy clothes and stylish home décor now is now beefing up its stores' supermarket aisles. Target is adding meat, fresh fruits and vegetables, and packaged baked goods such as pies.

Target says it's feeding the demands of its customers, who want increased convenience.

The chain plans to spend $1 billion on remodeling 340 of its stores this year. One in Lake Mary is already done. Six more Central Florida stores are getting transformed into the quirkily named "PFresh" style. (It stands for Prototype Fresh.) More remodels will follow over the next three years, but Target won't release details past this round.

The Altamonte Springs store at State Roads 434 and 436 should be complete July 25. Later this year remodels will be done in stores in Oviedo, Casselberry, Orange City, Winter Park (3770 N. Goldenrod Road) and 718 Maguire Blvd. in Orlando.
