Oyster Season Opening Delayed In Mississippi

Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced Thursday that oyster season, which was set to open at legal sunrise on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, has been delayed due to rainfall exceeding the management plan criteria for conditionally approved waters in the western sound. The season will open when water sample results meet the management plan criteria.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
