USApple Kicks Off 2018-19 Apples4Ed School Grant Program

Falls Church, Va. —The U.S. Apple Association today launched its 2018-19 Apples4Ed initiative—a grant program that supports healthy snacking initiatives in public schools across the United States. USApple will fund five $4,000 healthy snacking initiatives on campuses in 2019.

The Apples4Ed application can be found at Apples4Ed.com. Public schools with students enrolled in any grade from Kindergarten through 12th are eligible to apply. Applications are due by December 31, 2018. Winners will be selected in February and announced in March and April of 2019.

“October is National Apple Month, which is the perfect time during peak harvest and a fresh start to the school year to encourage healthy snacking habits,” said USApple President and CEO Jim Bair. “Apples4Ed offers schools the opportunity to implement healthy snacking initiatives that support the needs of their unique students and communities. This year we hope to foster conversations among students about how making healthy eating choices now can lead to long-term success academically and in other areas of their lives.”

USApple is proud to continue its partnership with the School Nutrition Association and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture on the Apples4Ed program.

Grant winners for the 2017-18 school year included St. Martin North Elementary in Biloxi, Mississippi, P811X, a special education high school located in the South Bronx; and East Elementary in Jackson, Missouri.
