Floral and cake designers from the area of varying skill levels made their way to Westroads Mall in Omaha for Hy-Vee’s Extreme Floral and Cake Challenge semifinals.
Of 25 floral and 12 cake designer participants, cake designer Beth Klein represented Harlan, while florist JaNean Mattes represented Council Bluffs.
Judged on originality, craftsmanship and mechanics, elements of design composition and use of space and balance, floral designers had three and a half hours to create five arrangements. Participating Hy-Vee floral designers have varying levels of experience and creativity. Some participants have years of experience, while others are less experienced or work part-time.
