The Illinois State Fair’s famed Butter Cow made its debut Wednesday, a day before the fair opens.
For the third straight year, the 600 pounds of butter was sculpted by Sarah Pratt of West Des Moines, Iowa. To mark Illinois’ bicentennial this year, the base the cow stands on makes references to the 200 years of Illinois history. Abraham Lincoln’s signature stovepipe hat also sits next to the cow.
Pratt does other butter sculptures throughout the year, including at her home state’s state fair.
