Last October, our Castella family suffered a tragic loss when my daughter Sophia took her own life at the tender age of 13. She was a vibrant, artistic, intelligent, and kind-hearted teenager, who expressed herself and touched others through her artwork. Nothing is more devastating than the loss of a child. Sophia’s passing had a profound effect on me, her siblings, her family, her friends, and members of the community. Although Sophia had the tools to become a successful adult, she fell victim to anxiety, bullying, lack of self-confidence and other challenges that many of our children face today.
In order to keep her spirit alive, TSVF (The Sophia Valsamos Foundation) was formed. Our 501(c)3 non-profit organization is determined to do everything to empower today’s young people to take a stand against bullying, find support around challenges and embrace each other’s differences. We are also committed to helping parents communicate better with their children. With your help, we can reach our goal to provide various programs throughout the year to increase self-confidence, promote kindness among our youth, and educate parents on the challenges they are facing today.
On Thursday, October 11, 2018 The Sophia Valsamos Foundation (TSVF) will be hosting our most important fundraiser of the year, our First Annual Memorial Dinner. A key part of the fundraising is a silent auction and raffle. Whether you will attend our dinner, or are unable to attend, we ask that you consider donating an item for auction in the form of items, gifts, admission tickets, monetary donations, or gift cards to help us achieve our goal. We are anticipating more than 250 members of our community to attend this event. Guests will be able to purchase raffle tickets to win various gift baskets of merchandise, tickets to various entertainment venues, and other prizes that are generously donated by community members like you.
Should you make a donation to our event, we will recognize your business/family in our Memorial Journal and on our website allowing members of the community, who could not attend, to learn of your support. Donations should be sent to the address below to the attention of Gina Valsamos. Please also consider sponsoring our event and placing an ad in our memorial journal. Details are attached.
If you have any questions, please contact our President, Jackie Todaro, at Jackie@tsvf.org. Thank you again for your generous support.
Very truly yours,
Chris Valsamos
