Glassboro, NJ – If you have fond memories of last summer’s juicy, delicious Jersey peaches, charge up your taste buds – they’re now ripe and ready to eat. Take the family out to the farm for a day of picking your own peaches, or just go to a farmstand, farmers market or supermarket. Treat yourself to a multi-course dinner out with every course made with peaches.
Community farmers markets are featuring special “Jersey Peach Days,” with peach tastings, giveaways, story-telling, face painting and lots of peachy products like cider, jam, sweets — several hosting amateur baker competitions for the “Best Peach Pie” or cobbler. Winning entry recipes will be posted onwww.jerseypeaches.com and winners will compete for two grand prizes of $300 each (one in north Jersey; one in south Jersey).
Markets have some very creative events and activities in addition to the baking competitions. Live music is at Bernardsville, Chatham Borough, Nutley, Ramsey. Five Collingswood area restaurants, The Frog and the Peach in New Brunswick and Blueplate in Mullica Hill offer dinners with peaches in every course. Alstede Farms in Chester offers home-made peach pancake breakfasts with wagon rides to the orchard. Terhune Orchards features eight chefs creating different peach dishes.
