CLEVELAND, Ohio — The supermarket chain that gives us gas discounts on food purchases is now offering us food discounts for buying gas.
Giant Eagle Inc.'s new Foodperks program works a lot like its Fuelperks loyalty program, by tracking how much shoppers buy and rewarding them with cents off at the check-out.
But instead of discounts at the pump, the Pittsburgh grocer is giving Giant Eagle Advantage Card customers who fill up regularly at its GetGo gas stations up to 20 percent off their food purchases at its grocery stores.
Starting Thursday in Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown and Toledo, Giant Eagle will start keeping track of how many gallons of gas shoppers buy at its 62 area GetGo gas stations.
