PARAMUS — Move over, department stores and traditional mall retailers. A Stew Leonard's dairy farm themed supermarket has been given the green light to take over the former Sears space at Paramus Park mall.
The Paramus zoning board of adjustment voted unanimously Thursday night to approve the grocery chain's plan to build an 80,000-square-foot store, with an additional 20,000 square feet of office and employee space in the former Sears store.
The board approved several variances requested by Stew Leonard's, including sign variances and outdoor displays. It also somewhat reluctantly allowed the chain to add its signature silo to the outside of the building, but members said they hope their vote doesn't lead to other retailers requesting permission to erect similar landmarks.
