CASHMERE, Wash. – May 25, 2010 – For the first time, Crunch Pak® sliced fresh apples are being carried by Canadian retailers.
Crunch Pak® began shipping five SKUs to Safeway Canada in May, said Tony Freytag, Crunch Pak® director of national marketing.
“It’s interesting that as we approach our 10th anniversary, we’re entering a new market and must educate a whole new set of consumers about our products,” Freytag said.
Canada is an important export market for U.S. apple shippers, given the country’s high apple consumption rate.
“Our challenge is to show Canadian consumers what high-quality sliced apples look and taste like,” Freytag said. “The product category in Canada has had limited SKUs/presence; with our enhanced product selection (nine SKUs specifically developed for Canada) we have the opportunity to introduce new users into the category just like we did in the U.S.”
With headquarters in Cashmere, Wash., Crunch Pak® product can reach Western Canadian retail outlets in one day. In addition, the company has a new plant in Pennsylvania that provides a similar condensed supply chain to Eastern Canada markets.
“We’re excited about Canada,” Freytag said. “We had excellent response from customers at CPMA. We know quality does matter.”
