Call For Tennessee-Produced Milk Labeling Approved

Identifying milk that comes from Tennessee dairy farms may get easier for consumers following action this week by the state legislature.

A bill was passed unanimously Wednesday in the both the state House of Representatives and Senate that authorizes any milk sold in Tennessee that contains only milk produced in this state to be labeled as “Local Tennessee Milk” or have a statement on the label indicating that the milk is produced in the state.

State Rep. David Hawk, R-5th, of Greeneville, was the primary sponsor of the bill in the House. State Rep. Jeremy Faison, R-11th, of Cosby, was one of the co-sponsors. State Sen. Steve Southerland, R-1st, of Morristown, was a co-sponsor of the bill in the Senate.
