Butterball Foodservice Adds 2 Types Of Turkey Crumbles To Its Product Line

Consumers are looking for variety and customization opportunities, and according to Technomic, this demand is highest for toppings and ingredients[1] and among the Generation Z population.[2] Butterball Foodservice has created two new turkey products that help operators give diners more options.

Fully cooked, pre-crumbled Turkey Breakfast Sausage Crumbles and Turkey Chorizo Crumbles are easy to use, saving time and labor. Their versatility also allows them to act as toppings or ingredients in different types of menu offerings. Low in fat and high in protein, they’re healthier alternatives to pork sausage and chorizo.

More breakfast dishes now feature turkey sausage, as 39 percent of millennials want more restaurants to serve turkey at breakfast,[3] and chorizo grew 50 percent on morning menus from Q2 2015 to Q2 2017. [1] The rise of chorizo also extends to salads and sandwiches, and it’s paired with egg in meals throughout the day.

These recipe inspirations show additional examples of how turkey sausage and turkey chorizo can work across dayparts, using Butterball’s new crumbles:

  • French Bread Pizza with Seasoned Turkey Crumbles: One slice combines the breakfast sausage crumbles with egg, cilantro and microgreens, while the other is topped with the chorizo crumbles, olives and pico de gallo—mix and match toppings to explore more taste combinations
  • Venezuelan Breakfast Arepa: A warm, house-made arepa is filled with a flavorful mix of the breakfast sausage crumbles, turkey bacon, egg, queso fresca, salsa and avocado-cilantro sauce—this portable sandwich meets the increasing need for breakfast items to eat on the go[3]

Butterball Senior Vice President Steve Canale said, “These crumbles deliver the same great tastes as our turkey sausage patties and links and our chorizo-seasoned ground turkey, and their different format offers some new culinary possibilities. Chefs will find plenty of menu applications for these new innovations, while their customers will be able to customize their meals with top trending proteins and flavors.”

Operators can contact their local foodservice broker to learn more about these products.
