ORLANDO, FL – ShopRite of Little Falls dietitian, Heather Shasa, was awarded a $1,000 scholarship after being selected as the winner of the Produce for Kids National Nutrition Month in-store display contest for retail dietitians who receive the free quarterly We Heart RDs resource kit. During National Nutrition Month retail dietitians were encouraged to share photos of their displays comprised of the kit contents with Produce for Kids for a chance to win.
“I look forward to utilizing the materials sent in the We Heart RDs kit for my in-store programming as well as my events in the community,” said Heather Shasa, retail dietitian at ShopRite of Little Falls. “The materials and resources have been indispensable to me as a retail registered dietitian.”
The quarterly We Heart RDs kit, sent to more than 470 retail dietitians at more than 55 retailers across the U.S. and Canada, contains a counter card for easy identification of what produce is currently in-season, recipes featuring those produce items, “I’m a healthy eater” stickers for kids, timely tips from the Produce for Kids team of blog contributors and seasonal information from produce commodity boards. Commodity boards included in the National Nutrition Month kit were Avocados From Mexico, National Processed Raspberry Commission and the National Watermelon Board.
In addition to the retail dietitian display contest, Produce for Kids team members celebrated National Nutrition Month by completing certificates in Food, Nutrition and Health through the University of Central Florida.
“It’s very important to us to provide our partners with sound nutrition resources, recommendations and recipes,” said Trish James vice president at Produce for Kids. “Having our team complete this certificate adds to the integrity of our brand and all of the brands that partner with us to create a healthier generation.”
The goal of the Food, Nutrition and Healthy Certificate program is to provide a holistic overview of current food and nutrition issues and their impact on health.
