Bloom Bakery, which is run by the nonprofit Towards Employment, has launched a fundraising effort to expand its catering and wholesale business.
The retail bakery, which opened in March 2016 at Public Square, provides jobs for low-income and disadvantaged adults in Greater Cleveland. The Crowdrise fundraising campaign hopes to raise $25,000 over the next 40 days. As of Tuesday morning, Feb. 20, the campaign had brought in $6,350.
Bloom, which also has a location in Cleveland's campus district, helps prepare individuals who face barriers to employment by offering training for a career in the culinary arts. A spokesperson for Towards Employment said Bloom has signed a contract with a wholesaler to provide Bloom's breads for large local institutions. Moreover, a market analysis shows the potential for corporate catering is "substantial." This $25,000 fundraising push will help meet those goals.
