Pierre Foods Closing Rome Plant

Pierre Foods Inc. will shutter its manufacturing plant in Rome, Ga., and cut 350 jobs.

“The layoff at Pierre Foods in Rome will create a difficult situation for the workers and their families,” said State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond, in a statement. “I want them to know they’re not alone in dealing with this situation. The Georgia Department of Labor is committed to helping them find new jobs, or access training and educational opportunities to prepare for new careers.”

Cincinnati-based Pierre Foods makes cooked beef, pork, chicken, turkey, peanut butter and bakery products for school, foodservice, retail, vending and convenience store markets.
