Longtime produce veteran, Michael W. Hopkins, has announced his retirement – effective January 1, 2018. Known throughout the industry as “Hoppy,” he spent the last 25 years at Lucky Strike Farms as Retail Sales Manager.
Known for his pithy turns of phrase and wry sense of humor, Mr. Hopkins started in produce transportation in 1972 after a stint in the Air Force. Moving into marketing at Sahara Packing in 1982, he was eventually promoted to sales manager before joining the Lucky Strike team in 1992.
An experienced musician, Mr. Hopkins played bass guitar with the rock band Badd Habitt for several years, performing throughout California. In 2014, he opened a central valley office for Lucky Strike Farms in Valley Springs, handling the company’s California chain store accounts. “Hoppy” and Cherilyn Hopkins, his wife of fifty years, will retire to their home in the village of Murphys, CA. Asked about his future plans, Mr. Hopkins – in his inimitable tongue-in-cheek style – hopes to "stay busy enough to avoid employment as a greeter at Walmart.”
