A recent in-depth look at the nation's Beef Checkoff Program concludes marketing activities conducted by the Cattlemen's Beef Board have substantially helped the demand for beef products in both the U.S. and in foreign markets.
Oklahoma officials who administer the program say they see the same types of results here.
Across the nation and in Oklahoma, a federally mandated $1 fee is collected for every head of cattle bought or sold.
And on Wednesday, cattle producers across the state will decide whether or not they are willing to pay an additional $1 per head to boost the state's marketing efforts when they sell their cattle. If approved, the payment won't be mandatory, however, because producers will be able to obtain fee refunds.
