Sysco Foods of Central Ohio will close its West Side distribution center by the end of June, a decision that will cause an undetermined number of the 250 workers to lose their jobs.
Employees will be either laid off or offered other jobs with the company when the facility at 2400 Harrison Rd. closes. Laid-off workers will receive job-search help and severance pay based on the number of years they were employed by the company, spokesman Mark Palmer said yesterday.
Some of the workers who are offered other jobs probably would have to move to take them, he said.
Others, such as some salespeople, will be able to retain their current jobs without relocating based on how close they live to customers. Some drivers also will be able to retain their jobs by either commuting to the new warehouse locations or picking up their trucks from shuttle points, Palmer said.
