LEESBURG, IND. – Maple Leaf Farms challenges home cooks to think beyond the traditional with its theme for the 2017 Strut Your Duck Recipe Contest: Not-your-average Holiday Duck Recipe.
With this year’s contest, Maple Leaf Farms is looking for non-traditional duck recipes for any of the major national holidays from Valentine's Day or Independence Day, to the big ones — Thanksgiving and Christmas. Original recipe entries that follow the theme may be submitted for any menu course — appetizer, soup, salad, entrée or even dessert — and must feature Maple Leaf Farms duck products.
“Holiday duck doesn’t mean always serving a whole bird,” said Maple Leaf Farms Director of Consumer Marketing Nora Macon-Rauen. “Duck products are available in a variety of cuts either raw or fully cooked, making duck easy to prepare and appropriate for different occasions.”
Entrants will compete to win one of three top cash prizes. The grand prize winning entry will be awarded $6,000 and free Maple Leaf Farms duck products for a year; first runner-up $3,000; and second runner-up $1,500. In addition, the winner of the People’s Choice Award, based on public online voting for favorite duck dish, will receive $350.
The contest is open to home cooks who are U.S. residents, 18 years old or older. Entrants may submit up to three recipes with accompanying photos showing the final prepared dish with the product package. Contest submissions will be evaluated on recipe preparation, creativity/originality, visual appeal and flavor.
Complete contest rules and entry details are available online at http://www.duckrecipecontest.com. Entries will be accepted July 1–Aug. 31, 2017, through the contest website.
