California Giant Releases Best-Practices Videos

(Watsonville – April 21, 2010) California Giant Berry Farms just released several short form videos featuring professional chef, Julia Myall in the kitchen with berries. In an effort to connect with shoppers buying their berries in the produce department, each 2 minute film focuses on a specific berry variety providing key tips on selection from the produce department, storage recommendations as well as fun and easy recipes prepared on camera.

California Giant partnered with Chef Julia Myall and the Culinary Institute of America at Greystone to provide shoppers an invitation into the kitchen to experience best practices firsthand on care and handling each of four berry types. The videos highlight California Giant strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries and provide information on how to maintain optimum shelf life after they get berries home from their local grocer. Chef Julia also talks about nutrition and simple ways to incorporate the company’s colorful berries into family recipes. The Chef worked with California Giant to produce the short films based directly on feedback received on a daily basis from customers purchasing their berries across the country.

“We have so many communication tools available to us today with You Tube, Facebook and Twitter, we feel the best way to personally connect with consumers is to produce interactive dynamic pieces like this that engage viewers and make a stronger impact”, says Cindy Jewell, Director of Marketing. California Giant developed the strong branded pieces to arm the consumer with more knowledge on care and handling to ensure the best flavor experience and repeat purchases.
Reception for these videos has been extremely positive with consumer social media networks that want to feature the videos on blogs and websites frequented by moms. For increased visibility and reach they will be distributed through a network of web sites and editors that will reach food web feed of over 400 related sites and video feeds. California Giant will also be posting the pieces on their new website, Facebook and You Tube. Retail partners will have the opportunity to feature the programs on their in-store networks, website or social media marketing tools in place to reach their customer base.
