Illinois Lays An Egg Compared With Nearby States In The Poultry Business

ILLINOIS NEWS NETWORK – Illinois is lagging in the poultry industry while nearby states continue to thrive in the industry.

Illinois produced only 1.5 billion eggs and totaled about 5.3 million chickens in 2016, while Iowa produced 13.6 billion eggs and Indiana produced 8.9 billion eggs last year.

While no one reason has been identified for the poultry industry being smaller in the state, Tasha Bunting, assistant director of commodities and livestock for the Illinois Farm Bureau, provided some insight.
