Sani Professional Food Safety Advisory Council Announces Sani Awards Winners

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. — Sani Professional, the food safety division of Professional Disposables International (PDI), and the Sani Professional Food Safety Advisory Council (SPFSAC) are proud to announce the winners of the 2017 Sani Awards program.  The Sani Awards celebrate innovation and excellence in food safety and promote best practices within the foodservice industry for education/training, employee/customer programs and guest experience.   This year, we received double digit growth in nominations.  This coupled with the increased quality of the nominations resulted in the advisory council awarding 2 winners in category B.

Here are the winners in each category:

Category A:  Outstanding food safety program innovation:

Awarded to:  Tracey McClure and Jason's Deli.  Jason's Deli is a fast casual restaurant chain with over 260 locations in 28 states from Minnesota to Florida, Nevada and Virginia.  Tracey was instrumental in developing a robust Food Safety Program with Jason's Deli that has always put the safety of their customers and employees first. Tracey instituted a food safety training program that ensured all franchisees across all states were compliant with local laws and best practices.  In addition, their food safety audit program improved over 10% system wide. These upgraded food safety programs assisted Jason's Deli in their quest for best-in-class food safety practices.

Category B: Exceptional food safety education and/or training program implementation

Awarded to:  Jeremey Benedict of ASC and SUNY Cortland.  SUNY Cortland's dining services serve nearly 250,000 meals each month.  Their on campus training program trains on average 450 personnel annually.  Their comprehensive food safety program focuses on training knowledge retention, food safety/sanitation, and has resulted in a 95% pass rate of their management.  This program is an integral part of the food safety culture at SUNY Cortland and keeps the over 10,000 staff, students and vendor's safe day in and day out.

Awarded to: Therese O'Connor of Cornell Dining Services.  Cornell Dining has a 3 pronged approach to food safety:  NEHA certification (National Environmental Health Association), Allertrain and Ecosure.  This approach has resulted in over 90% of their staff having the appropriate food safety certification.  All of their regular staff is trained and tested on food allergens and finally their 3rd party audit program has resulted in a 64% reduction in violations/discrepancies.  Outstanding results!
