Amazon Beats Kroger To A Burgeoning Food Segment

Amazon.com Inc. has jumped ahead of Kroger in one fast-growing segment of the food market.

Amazon’s new AmazonFresh grocery delivery service is now making Martha Stewart’s Martha & Marley Spoon meal kits available to its customers. Amazon (Nasdaq: AMZN) started the service in March in New York, San Francisco, Dallas and Philadelphia. It added Seattle; Boston; Washington, D.C., and areas of Southern California this month.

Stewart has partnered with meal kit creater Marley Spoon Inc. to make the branded meal kits that contain recipes and pre-portioned seasonal, fresh ingredients to allow users to cook a meal for two adults. Unlike popular meal kit services like Blue Apron, AmazonFresh’s Martha & Marley Spoon meal kits won’t require users to commit to buying a certain number of meals or place orders a week in advance.
