A Walmart distribution center, expected to add more than 500 jobs in coastal Alabama, is set to be under construction soon after county officials approved building and land disturbance permits to move the project forward.
"We're excited about reaching this step in the process," said Phillip Keene, a Walmart spokesman. "We'll continue to work with state, county, city and port officials closely and we thank them for their support so far."
The estimated $126.9 million project is expected to be under construction soon after county officials awarded the project manager a land disturbance permit on March 1, followed up with the building permit on March 7.
