Madison, Wis. – This spring, retailers across the country are joining the Grilled Cheese Academy in its culinary pursuit of grilled cheese excellence with the sixth annual Grilled Cheese Recipe Showdown. Presented by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board (WMMB), the Grilled Cheese Academy boasts a library of more than 150 mouth-watering grilled cheese recipes made with Wisconsin cheese.
More than 150 retailers have signed on to join the annual search for the next great grilled cheese flavor combination. Retail marketing managers at WMMB are connecting Wisconsin cheesemakers with retailers around the country for exclusive in-store promotions and live events that encourage sampling and purchase while building awareness for the grilled cheese competition. Several Wisconsin cheese manufacturers are also working with retail partners on special branded point of sale displays and on-pack coupon promotions.
Last year’s competition drew over 2,000 entries, and this year the Grilled Cheese Academy expects to see even more. The Grilled Cheese Recipe Showdown will be accepting entries from March 30 through May 14. Entries will be judged not only on taste, but also creativity and presentation. One grand prize winner will receive $15,000 and be crowned the 2017 Grilled Cheese Champion. More than $13,500 in additional cash and bonus prizes will also be awarded throughout the competition.
