Giant Eagle is rolling out a pilot program for grocery home delivery in the South Hills. And that means the O’Hara-based grocer is joining delivery titans like Amazon and Google, as well as local companies like Green Tree-based Zing Basket in competing for customers who want to pay for the convenience of not waiting in line.
As it tests the program, Giant Eagle is specifically targeting shoppers who already use the grocer’s Curbside Express pickup service since they’ve already taken to ordering their butter and eggs online through the company’s website.
South Hills Village customers were chosen because that store has the busiest curbside pickup location. “So there’s already a huge amount of interest in a densely populated area,” said Giant Eagle spokesperson Dan Donovan.
