AURELIUS — County planning department officials say a major food production company is eyeing the Industrial Development Agency business park in Aurelius for the site of a $70 million plant, but are keeping a tight lid on the company’s identity.

County planning director Steve Lynch said corporate representatives asked him not to reveal the company’s name, but said Cayuga County is among the finalists hoping to land the new company, which will specialize in value-added dairy manufacturing.

Lynch said Friday that the company will buy raw milk from nearby dairies and process it to be sold as bottled milk, cheese, yogurt or ice cream.
