For years to come, we may look back at 2017 as the biggest year in the history of the Arctic® brand. Why? This is the year that nonbrowning Arctic® apples hit stores for the first time ever!
This isn’t to say that 2016 wasn’t a “fruitful” year for us as well; the very first commercial harvest of Arctic® Goldens and the USDA approval of our Arctic® Fuji variety were major milestones without a doubt. However, twenty years after Okanagan Specialty Fruits’ founders Neal and Louisa Carter first dreamed up the idea of nonbrowning apples that could reduce food waste and boost consumption, there’s nothing that can top finally sharing them with apple lovers in stores.
In 2016, we worked hard to ready ourselves for this year’s market introduction. We completed more consumer research, deciding on the first ever Arctic® apple product form (fresh, ready to eat Arctic® Golden slices!), developing packaging, planting more trees, and of course, growing the fruit itself.
