West Louisville Grocer Makes Hard Decision To Close

Matt Reasor's father opened the Pic Pac Supermarket at 2421 W. Market St. a month after he was born. It supported him throughout his childhood, and now it supports his family.

But soon, the 34-year-old grocer will close Pic Pac's doors once and for all.

The store has become a second home to Reaser, and its employees are his second family. But economic shifts in West Louisville, a change in food-stamp laws and the growing number of chain stores such as Dollar General and Kroger all have come together to create a hard couple of years for Pic Pac, he said.

"We're still treading water, but it seems like it gets harder and harder as the months drag on," Reaser said Wednesday morning. "Right now, we're shutting down on the good side of things. We're in good shape to do this, versus going bankrupt."
