CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Cows Creamery has once again been recognized as a producer of top-quality cheeses, this time at the American Cheese Society competition in Des Moines, Iowa. The competition is held annually in different cities across the United States with entries coming in from across North America.
Cows Creamery, based in Charlottetown, is celebrating a first-place ribbon in the aged cheddar, its extra old cheddar (24-48 months old), and another first-place prize in the cheddar wrapped in cloth over 12 months category for their Avonlea Clothbound Cheddar. Their Appletree Smoked Cheddar was also awarded a third-place prize in the “smoked cheeses made from cow’s milk” category.
“This year has really exploded for us in terms of awards,” says Cows Creamery cheesemaker, Armand Bernard. “We’ve been making cheese for about 10 years now and I think we’ve gotten to a place where our recipes are stronger than ever.”
